Overview of the Saudi National Committee for the Prevention of Blindness (NPBC)

  

The National Prevention of Blindness Committee (NPBC) was established following a Royal Decree of King Fahad bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, which states that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia should join the global initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) for elimination of major causes of avoidable blindness by the year 2020, "VISION 2020: The Right to Sight". The main aim of the committee is to reduce incidents of preventable blindness and visual impairment.





Objectives of the National Committee to combat blindness

  


The objectives of the committee are to:

- Support existing programs and activities towards reduction of visual disabilities
- Create, develop and establish new programs to combat the causes of visual impairment.
- Provide support to professionals, centers and researchers who are involved in the fight against Visual impairment
- Represent the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in areas of prevention of visual impairment nationally and internationally.
- Organize and participate in conferences, seminars and lectures on ophthalmology, optics and the World Sight Day for prevention and control of Visual impairment.
- Coordinate between health service providers for implementation of prevention of blindness programs
- Work as a consultative body in the development of programs against Visual impairment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- Create database for eye care and visual impairment resources, in Saudi Arabia.
